A Good Candidate for Club Gitmo

Can you believe this? Another anti-American professor at a taxpayer funded university actually advocating jihad against us. It's about time somebody held these colleges accountable. Not only should he be carted off to Gitmo, but the university should be fined for employing this freak in the first place. Maybe that would finally be the spark we need to change their employment standards.

(By the way, I'm thinking about starting a petition to bring back tarring and feathering. Would anyone sign it if I did???)

Book Endorsement

A History of the English Speaking Peoples since 1900 by historian Andrew Roberts - Looks like something worth reading. Roberts presents, at least in the interview below, a fair assessment of the current war on terrorism and it's significance for our future, as well as a refreshingly un-America-hater look at our proud history.

From Roberts' interview with FrontPageMagazine:

FP: What are some of the way the United States has been a great force for good in the world since 1900?

Roberts: The US liberated huge portions of the world from Spain at the start of the century, protected Europe from being taken over by Wilhelmine Germany in the Great War, called a unilateral moratorium on War Debts under the Dawes Plan, aided the Allies before Pearl Harbor, chose to destroy Hitlerism before Japan, mobilised more men in World War II and spent more money for victory than any other power, liberated North Africa, France, Germany, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Italy and Austria from the Nazis, and the Far East from the Japanese, launched the $14 Billion Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe, saved Berlin from being forced into the Soviet zone of Germany in 1948, protected South Korea and Chile, attempted to her uttermost to protect South Vietnam from the murderous scourges of Communism, it reached the Moon, won more Nobel prizes per capita than any other country, discovered the cures for numerous diseases such as polio, spends more in private philanthropy than any other nation by a significant factor, financed a large part of NATO for over 60 years, masterminded ultimate victory in the Cold War under Ronald Reagan bringing democracy to Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and the Baltics, and crushed Milosevic's murderous regime in Kosovo.

The US is presently shouldering around 90% of the burden defending Civilisation from the lethal and unappeasable threat of Islamic Fundamentalist terrorism. It's a glorious record, and one that deserves to be lauded more by a nation that all too often deprecated the enormously beneficial world role it has played since 1900.

FP: I agree, it is a glorious record and you have stated it powerfully and succinctly. I wonder why this side of history was never taught to me in university.

So give us a few sentences in terms of the key themes that you think mark the four world-historical struggles - against German Nationalism, Fascism, Communism and now radical Islam.

Roberts: The four great assaults on the English-speaking peoples since 1900 have been undertaken by various mutations of Fascism. The proto-Fascism of the Prussian militarists, the Axis powers' Fascism, the Red Fascism of the Soviets, and presently the Totalitarian Islamic Terrorist Fascism are all motivated by loathing of the English-speaking peoples' traditions of democratic pluralism.

FP: What sacrifices do you think will be needed to maintain American greatness into the 21st century?

Roberts: I think that the English-speaking peoples will need to sacrifice their naivety about the true nature of war - and the losses that inevitably go with it - before they can win this latest bout of the anti-Fascist struggle. The experiences of conflicts such as Grenada, the Gulf War and Kosovo have instilled a belief that wars can be fought victoriously without significant allied losses. That was true of these localised, limited wars but is simply not true of the Manichean world-historical struggle they are presently engaged upon.

FP: Do the English-speaking peoples have the will to do what it takes to defeat the force of radical Islam?

Roberts: I fear, in the light of Congress's recent nonbinding (and utterly self-contradictory) resolution opposing the surge, the gross bias of much of the Left-Liberal media, and the present poll ratings of Sen Hillary Clinton, that the US will lose the will to fight the War against Terror in any manner that might hold out the hope of ultimate victory.

The alternative is isolationism, and the neutering of America and with her the English-speaking peoples. Her wealth will not protect her once the willpower has gone, as has been witnessed countless times in decaying empires of the past. It is, however, not too late.

FP: Let’s hope it is not too late. And if it isn’t too late, then may I ask what it isn’t too late for? What has to be done to win this conflict?

Roberts: The English-speaking peoples need to recognise that in a unipolar world they are not going to be as popular as they were in the pre-1989 bipolar world, especially when the other pole was Communism.

Therefore they must toughen their hearts to unpopularity, and instead earn the respect they deserve but doing what is right. In Iraq and Afghanistan this means fighting for as long as it takes to achieve complete and final victory over Radical Islam. They ought to view the conflict as a very long-term and necessarily painful but unavoidable generational conflict, and dedicate their energy and resources to it, in the way that they were willing to devote them to the extirpation of Nazism, Showa Japanese Fascism and Soviet Communism. They should not be afraid of threatening to widen the struggle to include foreign countries that aid and abet the insurgents in Afghanistan and Iraq. They need to do whatever it takes to ensure that no country becomes a safe haven for jihadist terrorism.

George W. Bush will be treated better by History than he has been hitherto by the 24/7 media, because of the aggressive way he rose to the challenge post-9/11. If either of his predecessors had put Islamic terrorism as high on their agendas as he was forced to, we might not be facing this world-historical struggle today.

We're Not Alone!

A recent USA Today/Gallup poll reveals that you (for our conservative readers) and I are not alone as the only people out there who are still behind Dubya:

The Feb. 9-11 poll puts Bush's job approval at 37%, but among people who identify themselves as Republican or leaning Republican, his approval rating is 76%.

Thus, despite bad news from Baghdad and carefully crafted hand-wringing by high-profile GOP war critics in Congress such as Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, three of four Republicans in the country are hanging in there with the president.

The poll also shows that rank-and-file Republicans have higher regard for the president than they do Republicans in Congress. They gave GOP lawmakers a 63% job-approval rating, 13 points below Bush's. And 72% of Republicans do not think Bush made a mistake sending U.S. troops to Iraq.

So if congressional Republicans figure the key to re-election in 2008 is taking a hard line against Bush on Iraq, they could be dead wrong. They might lure some independents, but they risk alienating their GOP base.

Perspective

Wow. Thanks to Rush for pointing this out. From the article "Heroes and Cowards" by Alicia Colon in the NY Sun.

The total military dead in the Iraq war between 2003 and this month stands at about 3,133. This is tragic, as are all deaths due to war, and we are facing a cowardly enemy unlike any other in our past that hides behind innocent citizens. Each death is blazoned in the headlines of newspapers and Internet sites. What is never compared is the number of military deaths during the Clinton administration: 1,245 in 1993; 1,109 in 1994; 1,055 in 1995; 1,008 in 1996. That's 4,417 deaths in peacetime but, of course, who's counting?

Take that, anti-war hippies and MSM jerks! Now, do you think you can stop bemoaning how much you supposedly care about our troops and what a massive failure Iraq is? How it's not worth the risk... the same risk we have in our military during times of peace?? Thanks.

Too Much Fun

The general election will be such a let down after the primaries! Democrats are so nasty and it's so much fun to watch them go at each other instead of Bush for a change. (consequently, it might also be the only time we get to hear honest opinions about some of their own)

Says former Clinton supporter David Geffin in Maureen Dowd's latest NYT article:

"Everybody in politics lies, but they [the Clintons] do it with such ease, it’s troubling,” Geffen had said.

The gloves are off! The Clinton campaign demanded an apology from the the Obama campaign, saying that there is no room for such "personal insults" (are you frickin' kidding me???)

To which the Obama campaign responded...

“We aren’t going to get in the middle of a disagreement between the Clintons and someone who was once one of their biggest supporters. It is ironic that the Clintons had no problem with David Geffen when was raising them $18 million and sleeping at their invitation in the Lincoln bedroom. It is also ironic that Senator Clinton lavished praise on Monday and is fully willing to accept today the support of South Carolina State Sen. Robert Ford, who said if Barack Obama were to win the nomination, he would drag down the rest of the Democratic Party because he's black."

I love it! They even threw in the Lincoln bedroom quip! Ahh, this is going to be fun. How DARE Obama thwart Hillary's due reward for all those years with Bill?!!! How DARE he??? Well, he's gonna get it now, mark my words... People have, erm, committed suicide for posing less of a threat to Hillary's future...

Culture Breakdown

Calling attention to the commenter who claims I am "racist" for daring to write about a legitimate problem, I give you these words about the All Star weekend from African American columnist, Jason Whitlock:

I was there. Walking The Strip this weekend must be what it feels like to walk the yard at a maximum security prison. You couldn't relax. You avoided eye contact. The heavy police presence only reminded you of the danger.

Without a full-scale military occupation, New Orleans will not survive All-Star Weekend 2008.

David Stern seriously needs to consider moving the event out of the country for the next couple of years in hopes that young, hip-hop hoodlums would find another event to terrorize. Taking the game to Canada won't do it. The game needs to be moved overseas, someplace where the Bloods and Crips and hookers and hoes can't get to it without a passport and plane ticket.

I'm serious. Stern has spent the past three years trying to move his league and players past the thug image Ron Artest's fan brawl stamped on the NBA.

After this weekend, I'm convinced he's losing the battle. All-Star Weekend Vegas screamed that the NBA is aligned too closely with thugs. Stern is going to have to take drastic measures to break that perception/reality. All-Star Weekend can no longer remain the Woodstock for parolees, wannabe rap artists and baby's mamas on tax-refund vacations.

This was not a byproduct of the game being held in Vegas. All-Star Weekend has been on this path for the past five or six years. Every year the event becomes more and more a destination for troublemakers.

If something isn't done, next year's All-Star Weekend will surpass the deceased Freaknik, a weekend-long party in Atlanta, in terms of lawlessness. Wide-spread looting and a rape killed the Freaknik in 1999.

The NBA's image cannot survive bedlam in the French Quarter. And I'm not sure it can survive the embarrassment of a New Orleans standoff between its fans and the National Guard, either.

If Stern wants to continue to strengthen the international appeal of his game, he has the perfect excuse to move the All-Star Game to Germany, China, England or anywhere Suge Knight's posse can't find it.

Original post:

300 arrests in two days. Three people shot and a brawl - in those same two days.

No, I'm not talking about what happened in Iraq over the weekend; I'm talking about the NBA all star weekend in Las Vegas. I don't want to say anything offensive here, but could there perhaps be a cultural breakdown with the average basketball player's entourage? Just sayin' - you wouldn't see these headlines after the NHL all star weekend...

Half Hour News Hour

Did anyone watch that new political satire show on Fox News? It was on last night at 10 eastern. Great show! It's about time conservatives finally have a comedic outlet. It's been way too long since the Daily Show had an alternative...

My favorite segment was the "six degrees of global warming" guy (who could tie any problem known to man to global warming in six degrees or less). Also liked the game show host/environmental expert who never showed up for his interview b/c his electric car couldn't make it up a low hill on the way to the studio. And the news ticker that ran on the bottom of the screen listed "Countries that still hate us." My favorite line was about how when Hillary wins the presidency she will make sure her staff is comprised of an overarching mix of diverse, multi-cultural, angry lesbians. Anyway - great show - don't miss it next time!

Shameful

That's all I can say about this non-binding resolution the House passed today.

To sum it all up - rather than supporting the commander in chief and his generals and soldiers on the ground in Iraq, the Democrat-controlled Congress felt it was more important to embolden our enemies and vote on this meaningless resolution of condemnation. They care more about public opinion (which they and their friends in the MSM helped to create by their bashing of our president and the war in Iraq since day 1) than they care about our country's national security. They have offered no alternatives for achieving victory in Iraq (aside from cut and run), but they're real good with meaningless resolutions and lofty condemnation of the only real plan we have out there.

Well, our troops might be disappointed to hear about this, but at least they gave the Freak of Iran and all the little jihadists around the world something to celebrate.

Forsberg to Nashville

The Predators (leading the Central Division by 1 point over the Wings) picked up Peter Forsberg, hoping he'll help them advance in the playoffs. I can't believe the Wings were even considering getting this ex-Av! That's like Toby Keith asking Natalie Maines to sing back-up in his next song. Ew. (Note- If you do click the link to read the article - the real info. is in the comments section - Detroit fans know their hockey). Hoping the Wings can also pull off a big trade before the deadline - someone who can HIT.

Go Wings!

Congrats to the Terriers!!

My alma mater won another Beanpot last night. Good stuff - let's hope the momentum can carry us through the playoffs (unlike last year).

BC sucks.

The Liberal Music Awards

Yes, I think it's time the Grammy's officially changed their name to more accurately reflect their criteria for musical merit. It's apparently how liberal you are, more than the quality of your music - bonus points if you actually bash Bush in a song or concert! How else can you explain the Dixie Chicks cleaning house?

I flipped to the Grammy's and saw a minute segment in which they won country album of the year -over such competition as Josh Turner (undoubetly who the winner should have been, but then he didn't bash Bush in any of his songs and, worse, had a song about God on his album...) That was about all I could stomach last night.

Now I see they've won record and song of the year for "Don't want to make nice." Has anyone actually heard that song? (It's difficult, since most country stations, on feedback from their listeners, have decided not to play the new Dixie Chicks albums - seems even in "blue state" Michigan, country fans aren't too fond of the Chicks any more...) Had you heard that song you would know that it's not very good. Hardly song of the year; but then, they did bash the president... They also won overall album of the year (the first time a "country" band has done that since 1969).

Well, I guess the Dixie Chicks sure showed us! If only they didn't have to keep cancelling their U.S. concert dates...

Save Scooter!

Scooter Libby - the Left's current whipping boy because they just haven't been able to indict Karl Rove on anything, the Bush impeachment hearings haven't started yet, nor has Cheney's trial for death by stoning because he used to work in the oil business.

Poor Scooter isn't high profile enough and the charges against him are so convaluded that most Americans simply don't know or care what's happening to him.

Let's break it down - he's on trial for "leaking" the name of Valerie Plame and then "lying" about that supposed leak.

Important considerations:

1. Who the hell cares about Valerie Plame? She was not - I repeat NOT- undercover, nor had she been for like 7 years prior to her name being "leaked." Therefore, Libby did nothing illegal even if he had "leaked" her name because SHE WAS NOT UNDER COVER.

2. There were several people who knew about Plame being Joe Wilson's wife and getting him the Niger kick. So again, WHO CARES if he happened to mention her name to anyone? SHE WAS NOT UNDER COVER.

3. Is it as plausible that Scooter forgot who and when he first mentioned this inconsequential woman's name to a reporter as it is that Rodham didn't recall anything from her Whitewater days or that Clinton didn't recall getting oral pleasure in the Oval Office from a certain intern? Honestly - what would stand out more in your mind?

What goads me most about this entire ordeal is not just the ridiculous nature of the charges in general, but the media's revisionist history and blatant lies as they try to cast poor Scooter as the next Saddam Hussein (or the more evil Karl Rove). Ann brings to light their ridiculous lies in her latest post, the worst of which is these people still insisting that Saddam never tried to get yellowcake from Niger when our own CIA and bi-partisian Senate Intelligence Committee, as well as the British, all believe that yes, in fact, Saddam did try to buy Uranium from Niger.

So stick up for Scooter - stop the persecution!

Global Cooling Update

In the death and destruction that's sure to come if we don't do something to curb this man-made global cooling we're experiencing, the world will regret their shift toward hybrid vehicles...

Already, animals across the world are feeling the calamitous effects. Reindeer in Sweden are in danger of starving to death. Apparently, the ice is so much thicker than usual, that the poor reindeer can't get to the lichen they usually eat in the winter. The Swedish governement is giving financial aid to reindeer farmers to feed their herds, but one has to wonder - is it too late?

Closer to home - Northern Michigan is experiencing one of the top 10 coldest starts to Februray in the last 100 years. However, as residents in the U.P. (eh?) strangely thrive on cold, they are stubbornly denying the imminent threat of Global Cooling, encouraging people in warmer climates who don't have to drive through snow to keep buying their hybrids.

In related news, state climatoligists in Oregon and Delaware face firings and criticism over their skepticism that humans are responsible for climate change.

"They should both be fired," environmental analyst Stan Schubach told Conservababes. "While the planet is actually experiencing Global Cooling - something these scientists blatantly ignore- rather than warming, there is no denying that man's actions over a 30 year period can drastically alter the climate conditions of this massive planet we inhabit. Just because the earth's climate has changed in the past without human causes does not mean that the current changes we see today are not undeniably the direct result of the type of vehicles humans drive."

Experts bemoan the Global Cooling skeptics of the world, claiming that they are ignoring today's cooling temperatures just as they ignored the Little Ice Age (of approximately 1700 - 1850) when promoting their theory that the planet is actually warming.

"You have reindeer dying!" says climatologist Jane Smith. "When are people going to wake up and realize that if we don't start pumping more CO2 into the atmosphere, we will soon be wiped out just like the dinosaurs!"

Smith recommends driving more SUVs and breathing more to increase CO2 in our atmosphere.

In other news, scientists at the Lemming Institute are considering using explosive devices to trigger volcanic erruptions in an effort to counter the effects of the so-called Global Warming theory, to which Smith responded "Now perhaps you understand just how unbalanced and delusional the Global Cooling skeptics can be."

Exploiting the Bears

Nice little post from a blog called riehlworldview.com that Rush read from in his show today. What will the devout global warming fear mongerers think of next?

Remember that picture of the poor suffering polar bears languishing away on a melting glacier? Just google "polar bears" + "global warming" and you'll see all of the doom and gloom stories about the endangered polar bears, instigated by this picture. A picture that was taken years ago by a woman, then used by the GW pinkos, who claimed they actually took the picture (that's misleading, if not an outright lie), to show the effect GW is having on the poor bears. Apparently, that ice formation was made by waves (anyone know how frickin' cold it has to be for ocean waves to freeze?); it is not the melting glacier the pinkos would have had us all believe...

In other news, yet another story about why it makes more sense that the sun is responsible for the whopping 1 degree rise in the earth's temperature over the last 100 years. (thanks for the link PCD)

Yea capitalism. I still love my SUV. Can't wait 'til it goes fuel cell, but I assure you that's more of a financial thing than from any fears I have of it hurting polar bears...

Congrats to the Colts!

Peyton Manning finally has his ring. Phew, that's over with. I'm glad for the Colts team, Dungee and Peyton. Less glad for the people of Indianapolis (hey- they're also Pacers fans), but I'm sure they're enjoying the celebration without my heartfelt cheer. It was a well-deserved win for a great team. And yes, Manning finally has that ring now.

I can't remember who it was in the pre-game commentary asking if it would be physically possible for him to do even more commercials after winning the Super Bowl... Speaking of commercials, I was disappointed. Liked most of the Budweiser spots (though never enough to actually want to drink their beer) - my fav. was the hitch hiker spot. The Chevy spots were pretty good. Most everything else was uninspiring. Prince rocked at half time; the first half was far better than the second half (especially if you were routing for the Bears), and I was glad to hear all of the positive comparisons between Miami as a host city v. Detroit. Apparently, the consensus was that Detroit was better organized and the people here were more welcoming...

Just glad we had the game last year and not this year, because I don't think the reviews would have been as favorable... Seeing as we're feeling some major effects of "global cooling." I wish Algore could visit - we had a high of about 8 degrees yesterday, I think it's 6 right now (about 20 below with the wind chill). Every school in the New Fallujah area is closed today and I'm still trying to figure out why I didn't take the day off...

Happy Monday.

Super Bowl Update - I can't believe I forgot to mention this. When he said it I shouted - oh, the liberals and the rest of the world are HATING that! Thanks to Rush for reminding me...

DUNGY: I'll tell you what. I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American to win this. That means an awful lot to our country. But again, more than anything -- I said it before -- Lovie Smith and I are not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win and doing it the Lord's way. We're more proud of that.

And more from Rush...

It's clear from the way that Dungy lives his life and the kind of person he is that his distinguishing feature is indeed that he's a Christian, and I've been looking at the Drive-Bys today to see if there is any reference to this. I haven't found any reference to this. There is a little bit. It embarrasses the Drive-Bys.

"Oh, I wish he hadn't said that. Oh, God! We'll focus on the black coach thing!"

I got a note from a friend saying, "How long is it going to take the NFL to apologize to the world for the references to God last night in the post-game show?"

Friday, February 2

And They Wonder...

..Why we call them environmentalist whackos.

"As usual, I find myself in the position of representing the animal kingdom in a gathering like this," the 72-year-old Goodall told the conference Friday...

"To do that most effectively, I propose to bring into this room the voice of the animals I've been learning about for the past 45 years.

"So here is the greeting of the chimpanzee of Tanzania," Goodall said, before launching into a long, modulated cry. "That says hello," she quipped, to loud applause from the assembly.

"We all enjoyed the chimp cry very much," French President Jacques Chirac, who was hosting the event at the Elysee Palace in Paris, told her afterwards.

This from the man who doesn't think it's a big deal if Iran has nuclear weapons. But man, is he a fierce warrior for the environment! It's a good thing the Germans aren't causing global warming, 'cause then he'd really be in trouble...

Nobel Rush

That's right - Rush Limbaugh has been nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Landmark Legal Foundation nominated him because...

"Rush Limbaugh is the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the world today," explained Levin. "Everyday he gives voice to the values of democratic governance, individual opportunity and the just, equal application of the rule of law -- and it is fitting that the Nobel Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a truly peaceful world for future generations."

I love it! And Rush will have a field day with this on his program today!!! Of course, he doesn't stand a chance of winning - what with the stiff competition of Algore and his ridiculous, movie... But what fun.

Happy Friday!

HP Release Date Announced!!!!

July 21 - I'll be counting the days! JKR just announced the release date of the much anticipated conclusion to the Harry Potter series. The 7th and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is out July 21.
