This is the most exciting news I've heard in weeks.

Granted, I've pretty much signed off on politics for the playoff season. It's just too depressing contemplating our pathetic pool of Republican candidates out there. (Did anyone hear John McCain saying last week that he can't wait to bring back his Kennedy amnesty bill if he's elected prez? Between that and his global warming concerns, I'm surprised more Democrats aren't falling in line with their favorite little maverick! If only he'd talk about more tax cuts he wouldn't vote for...)

But I digress. I've long said that hockey's popularity in the U.S. would double if espn had someone like Don Cherry and now they will!!! Don Cherry himself- on espn news, Sportscenter, etc. While he's not a Wings fan (he's understandably partial to Canadian players and we're so Euro), he's still the man. Can't wait to see the new wardrobe he'll break out for his espn debut this Friday...

Is getting off to a good start - as you'd know if you watched Sportscenter recently. They couldn't ignore the D after last night's dominance.

The Wings swept the Avs with an 8-2 win. (that's our hockey team, not our baseball team) Johan Franzen ("The Mule") had another hat trick, breaking an old Gordie Howe team record for most points in a playoff series, and setting an NHL record for most goals in a four-game series. He took all of the attention away from Datsyuk's playmaker (3 assists in one game). As Mickey Redmond would say, the Wings "had their way with them" last night. The Wings will do that sometimes; they're that good. Bring on Dallas!!!

The Pistons also finished their series in commanding fashion, beating the 'Sixers by over 20 points. Can everyone say Deeeeeeeeeetroit Baaaaaaasketbaaaaalllllll!!!

And the Tigers swept their 3-game series at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 1966! (Who's your Tiger?)

Yep; it's a good time to be a Detroit sports fan.

That's the promotional name Fox Sports Detroit has given to the glorious month of April in Detroit. And it is finishing on a strong note.

Last night, the Wings took care of the Avs again, taking a 3-0 series lead.

The Pistons also beat the sixers yesterday and head back to Philly up 3 games to 2.

And don't forget our Tigers, who hung on to beat the Yankees last night.

Let's hope all of our great teams keep their winning ways!!

Has everyone heard the elitist beliefs Barak Obama espoused late last week? When he said that many Americans "cling" to guns and RELIGION because of frustrations over lost jobs, etc. (Sorry Barak, but I think both guns and religion have been around a lot longer than this recent recession affecting states like Pennsylvania! I wonder what made people so religious before they became so frusterated over the troubled economy...?) Slowly, the Obamas are revealing who they really are: Elitist liberals who have been perfectly comfortable for 20 years listening to the hateful rhetoric of their American-loathing reverend Wright; Harvard/Yale grads who for the first time in their lives are "proud" of their country.

It's not surprising after these condescending remarks that Hilla the Hun has taken a 20 point lead in the PA polls!

Speaking of Hillary - despite her inability to tell the truth for two days in a row, I'll admit I'm really enjoying watching her on the campaign trail. To observe a woman so driven, so desparate to win at any cost! It's a matter of - dear lord, what will she do next? Shots of Crown Royal and beer, apparently! People seem to be making a big deal that it was Canadian whiskey (she should have went for the Jack!), but I think it's fitting. She's such a big fan of their health care system... (BTW- she handled that shot like a pro!)

Well, technically, it started last night, but tonight the Wings have their first playoff game and they feel confident they have the depth and know what it takes to make a great playoff run this year. I agree, though that won't stop my nerves. (Wings fans still have nightmares about past years we've won the Presidents' Trophey...)

Last night the playoffs kicked off with Pittsburgh soundly beating Ottawa 4-0. Colorado beat Minnesota in OT. The NY Rangers also whooped NJ (ha!) and (ha, ha, ha!) the teal-clad Sharks lost 3-2 to Calgary.

Tonight, in addition to Detroit v. Nashville, Boston ventures to Montreal, Dallas takes on the (formerly Mighty) Ducks, and somehow San Jose and Calgary have another game. (back-to-back games should not happen in the playoffs! Just reason 1,632 why Gary Bettman should be tarred and feathered!) Philly and D.C. don't start until tomorrow. All in all - some GREAT match-ups!! This has to be the most exciting start to the playoffs in a long, long time. Three Canadian teams, plus some old cross town rivalries like NY-NJ and Boston-Montreal. Should be a great run!

I'm still hanging strong here in New Fallujah, but my youngest brother who graduated from college in December just took a job in Dallas and my other younger brother is heading down to North Carolina next week for interviews in Charlotte and Raleigh. And I don't even want to think about how many friends have moved out of state. It's downright depressing around here. Thank goodness for our sports!

This is rich. It turns out that a trip three anti-war Democrat congressmen made to Iraq prior to the war was funded by Saddam Hussein! I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that these congressmen had no knowledge that Saddam had any role in funding the venture. But it's very telling -we've long been making the point that the anti-US, anti-military, anti-war rhetoric and actions of many Democrat lawmakers gives aid and comfort to our enemies. Just listening to the latest bin laden speech is proof enough, as he regurgitates Democrat talking points. And now we see how Saddam tried to use these dupes to help his cause! He knew where to go for sympathies. He knew his great hope for continuing his brutal, murderous regime and reaching his dreams of WMDs depended on the Democrat party of the United States!

Update: Apparently, the senators knew they were being used, but didn't mind it...

The Best Team he ever Coached

Detroit still has much to be proud of - the Pistons, the Tigers, Ford Field, and of course, the Red Wings. Coach Mike Babcock calls them the 'best team' he's ever coached. This as he sets an NHL record for becoming the first coach to have his team score 50+ points in his first three seasons as their coach.

I'm trying to think back to the last few times we won the Cup for a comparison. Definitely a better team now than in '02. I want to say they're better now than the '97 or '98 teams, but that's probably a stretch.

Picking up Rafalski did more to improve our team than anything this season - he's a truely solid defenseman that has adapted perfectly to the Wings' style of play. (oh, and he's from Michigan!) Lidstrom is just a rock back there; he's been around since the '97 run, and is undoubtedly the team's most valuable player (as we learned the hard way when he was injured last month). Of course, we had the Russian Five back then and now we have the Swedes. And Steve Yzerman was irreplaceable for his talent and what he meant for the team as their captain. But I can't remember ever watching a player as exciting as Pavel Datsyuk. I can't describe it any other way than it's like watching a world class figure skater with a hockey stick. His moves are so slick, so graceful, he makes these incredible passes through four opponents to find the open man. He embarrasses defensemen. He makes goalies flop out of their crease like a beached whale. Maybe I'm just caught up in the moment, but I can't remember the last time I've enjoyed watching the Wings as much as I have this season. I actually want to see EVERY game.

Can't wait for the playoffs!!!

The Kwame Khronicles continue. Today Wayne Co. prosecutor filed charges (I lost track after count 10) against Kwame and former chief of staff Christine Beatty, related to the whistleblower's lawsuit and text message scandal that revealed both had perjured themselves under oath and led to suspicion of misconduct. They've been asked to turn themselves in by 7 a.m. tomorrow.

The question: Will Kwame resign before or after the verdict comes down in his trial?

I think he'll fight it to the bitter end, but we'll see how much more he wants to embarrass Detroit...

As if our state wasn't in bad enough financial shape - one-state recession, record forclosures, etc., we hear that the "Big Three" are counting on this being the worst year for auto sales in over ten years. Just what Michigan needs to hear!

So to make us feel better, our very own Rep. Dingell supports a $0.50 per gallon additional gasoline tax.

You know what my suggestion to Dingell is? He's so concerned with companies "outsourcing" jobs. How about this - we'll pay $0.50 more per gallon as soon as China and India start taxing their citizens to curb greenhous gas emissions, OK?

Record Breaking Wings

With their win over the Dallas Stars last night, the Red Wings earned a playoff spot. They also tied a record (with Montreal) for having 8 consecutive 100-point seasons. Impressive, but how about this one - 17 consecutive playoff appearances. That is the longest streak in all of professional sports.

I can't find the one FoxNews has been showing all morning where he claims the U.S. invented HIV AIDS in an effort at "genocide" against African Americans and then goes on to say that we brought 9/11 upon ourselves, but here's his "God D*** America" clip.

This is the man who married Barrack and Michelle Obama and baptized their children. This is a man who Obama tries to pass off as a "crazy uncle" who sometimes says things you don't agree with (which was why he went to hear him preach on Sunday for 20 years?).

Now that we know a little more about the Obamas' "spiritual mentor," Michelle Obama's statement that this (Obama's successful primary campaign) was the first time she has ever been "proud of her country" finally has some context, don't you think?

Did anyone in New Fallujah catch Kwame's State of the City address last night? What a joke! He lambasted the city counsel (we need to move on, we have more important things to discuss). I could maybe see the argument for that if, say, his offenses didn't include perjury as he tried to ruin the lives and careers of two upstanding Detroit police officers in the process! And I won't even talk about the taxpayer dollars he's wasted. The "text message scandal" is only the latest in a long line of Kwame's shady dealings. Oh- did I mention he threw out the "N" word? Talk about desperation...

This quote from the Free Press article sums things up nicely:

"The last five minutes of that speech was stupid, childish and in the vein of our gangster mayor," said Detroit resident Thomas Ward, 19. "When he was defending his position and his family he should have stopped right there, but he continued on in that strange manner. To have a press conference about the state of the city devolve into a circus does not look good. It only discredits him."

According to this ex-city clerk, Tamara Greene (the murdered stripper ) wanted to press charges against CARLITA Kilpatrick for attacking her at the rumored Manoogian mansion party after she got a little too close to Kwame for his wife's liking. If true, this opens up a lot more questions about motivations for her murder.

BTW- Spitzer is calling this a 'private matter.' It's always a 'private matter' we should not be concerned with when a Democrat is involved, but if it's a Republican, well then it's a huge, major deal worthy of non-stop negative media coverage. The Dems defend this by saying - well, we don't claim the moral high ground like Republicans do. (as if they're proud of not claiming the moral high ground) But they really can't say that with Spitzer, now can the?

Super Tuesday II

What do you know - our girl, Hillary, pulled through yesterday in TX, OH and RI. I wonder how many Republicans, prompted by Rush Limbaugh and others, crossed over to vote for her in the TX Dem primary... On Fox & Friends this morning, the hosts asked people to email them if they had done this and they had about 800 emails from Clinton-voting Republicans within about 20 minutes. She still has an uphill battle for delegates, but like I always say - never underestimate a Clinton!

In other news, McCain officially shored up the GOP nomination. He gave a very nice acceptance speech last night, I must say. It made me feel a little better about him (at least in comparison to his opponents...) And he needs to always keep his wife by his side to make him seem younger than 90; that helps.

Michigan Speak

This is a completely frivolous post... The Free Press had this "Do you Speak Michigan?" article today with some "Michigan" words. Most of them were kind of lame and I've never heard them, but some were funny. For example:

Lionitis, n., the unshakable belief that the Detroit Lions will play in a Super Bowl in your lifetime. Usage: He knew he should have been at his son's concert, but the Lionitis took hold, convincing him this was the day the team would turn that big corner.

I have a brother who's been afflicted with "Lionitis" for years and years. No matter how we try to medicate him, he never fails to believe in August that this will be the year- the year they make the playoffs. (He doesn't think Super Bowl, just one playoff game- he must have a minor case of Lionitis.)

Here is some more "Michigan speak" I was razzed about when living out of state:

-We say "Quarter to" instead of "Quarter of" (It's quarter to three)

-Of course, it's POP - soda's something you mix with alcohol

-Our soft "a's" come off more as "ahhhh's" (would you like some balsaaaaaamic vinagrett with your saaaaaalad?) (for whatever reason, this "ahhhhh" phenomenon is far more pronounced in women)

-"Up North" is any place north of Saginaw

-And for the love, east coasters- it's U of M, not "U-mich!"

It's finally happened- popular Detroit Middle Eastern restaurant chain La Shish is out of business. When the owner flees to Lebanon to avoid millions in income taxes, then starts speaking at Hezbollah events, lets his wife go to jail for him instead of coming back and facing the music, and vouches for phony marriages so a woman can infiltrite the CIA and pass info on hezbollah- I can't believe they haven't closed sooner! Too bad, the food was great, but there are plenty of other tasty Middle Eastern restaurants in the area! (the new Ike's on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights is a favorite of mine - their hummus was much better than La Shish! )

That would be our U.S. Congress. Honestly- don't they have anything better to do (like, say, renewing the patriot act?) than investigate Roger Clemens?. Why is our government involved in sports? Are they having a slow week, or something? This is a matter for MLB, maybe an ambitious prosecutor, not the lawmakers of our country! As if they needed to look any more pathetic...

In other news, how about this story- a 26-year old National Guard sergeant wins $1 million and still wants to go back to Iraq for a third tour!

And speaking of Patriots, how about Prince Harry?

And in local news, Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's text message scandal continues, with City Counsel asking for his resignation.

Kilpatrick, asked on WWJ-AM (950) whether he would resign, said: "Nah. Not at all. I don't even understand how that is really in the public discussion."

And he later told reporters, "I'll be here for as long as I can be here."

Ah, spoken like a true Democrat!

Global Cooling Update

I wonder if all these signs of global cooling will make the environmentalists start advocating bigger carbon footprints to warm things up???

Snow cover over North America and much of Siberia, Mongolia and China is greater than at any time since 1966.

The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. ...the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

China is surviving its most brutal winter in a century

And remember the Arctic Sea ice? The ice we were told so hysterically last fall had melted to its "lowest levels on record?" Never mind that those records only date back as far as 1972 and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past.

The ice is back.

Gilles Langis, a senior forecaster with the Canadian Ice Service in Ottawa, says the Arctic winter has been so severe the ice has not only recovered, it is actually 10 to 20 cm thicker in many places than at this time last year.

Kenneth Tapping of our own National Research Council, who oversees a giant radio telescope focused on the sun, is convinced we are in for a long period of severely cold weather if sunspot activity does not pick up soon.

The last time the sun was this inactive, Earth suffered the Little Ice Age that lasted about five centuries and ended in 1850

Hockeytown Blues

This is getting comical, if it weren’t so painful to watch the Wings play two games this past weekend and score a total of one goal… We have FOUR defensemen injured! Four! Not sure I agree with Drapes that they’re our “best” four, but two of them are for certain. Add Cleary on top of that (broken jaw) and Hasek (being an old fart), and we might have to change our name soon to the Grand Rapids Wings…

In other news, we always enjoy a good derisive laugh at the Lions’ expense around here. This article pretty much sums things up.

It is the Lions' time of year. Other teams have the preseason; the Lions have the NFL scouting combine. Other teams have the regular season; the Lions have free agency. Other teams dream of the Super Bowl; the Lions point to the draft.... It is not surprising, then, that the Lions are more interesting right now than they are in a typical October.

Former offensive coordinator Mike Martz summed up the organization for all of us when he told reporters in Indianapolis, "I can't explain anything that they do."

Ah, well – at least we have the Pistons and the Tigers…

Democrat Debate Reaction

First let me just say that after watching that "debate," I feel so moved, my eyes filling with New Hampshire-esque tears, by how nice and friendly both the candidates and moderators were! It was just so nice to see such civility, such nice, carefully broached "questions," such civil discourse! For the first time in my life, it made me proud to be an American!

Now, to the substance of the debate- and it was there! Hillary is so benevolent - she cares about little babies, especially if they were born to illegal immigrants, and small children sitting on stools! (especially if they happen to be from Ohio) And Obama wants change.

Hillary is going to fix our economy by implementing a "trade prosecutor." (His salary will be paid by repealing the tax cuts for the wealthy.) What a brilliant idea! I hope they impose stiff jail terms for any evil American companies who don't kowtow to the new trade prosecutor. That's just what America needs! And Obama wants change.

Hillary is also going to help by creating "clean, green jobs," funded by repealing the tax cuts from the wealthy (you know, those filthy rich families making over $75,000 a year). Doesn't that sound marvelous? Don't you wish your job was clean? Or at least green? I know I do. Oh, and Obama wants change.

Lastly, while Hillary is taken by the sentiment of the English language remaining "special" to all Americans, it should never be made our "official" language. Oh, no. Instead, we're going to teach every American child to be bi-lingual! And we'll pay for it by repealing those tax cuts for the rich. Mind, we aren't going to test any of these children to see if they really can speak another language, but we'll keep throwing money at the program indefinitely, because the teachers need our help more than the wealthiest one percent. Obama agrees with her on all of the above, and he wants change.

Wow! I hope I haven't missed anything. I was listening very hard, though I did faint a few times while Obama was speaking.

It sure didn't take long after McCain shored up the GOP nomination for the MSM to "remember" the Keating Five scandal. I'm sure you've all heard about the supposed affair McCain had with a lobbyist 8 years ago - the NY Times dug this story up from some "unnamed sources," so you know it must be true. But if you read their breaking news story, you'll see it's nothing more than an excuse to rehash the Keating Five scandal (which, btw- I still haven't been able to figure out how one of the five went to jail, 3 lost their senate jobs and McCain somehow escaped with a mere censure?). After devoting a few intro paragraphs to the alleged affair (about 11% of the article's content), the other 89% is devoted to the Keating Five tale. Maybe this will teach the GOP a lesson - let's choose our own candidate next time, instead of letting the media select him for us.

I loved this little article, and reading all of the comments by indignant Americans.

Basically Bob Geldof (an Irish rocker, read the article to learn more of him), is astounded that President Bush is not receiving the credit he is due for everything he's done for Africa during his presidency.

In fact, Geldof says that Bush "has done more than any other president so far."

"This is the triumph of American policy really," he said. "It was probably unexpected of the man. It was expected of the nation, but not of the man, but both rose to the occasion."

"What's in it for [Mr. Bush]? Absolutely nothing," Mr. Geldof said.

Mr. Geldof said that the president has failed "to articulate this to Americans" but said he is also "pissed off" at the press for their failure to report on this good news story.

In the general theme of the below post, I'd like to point out a few things that I'm proud of President Bush for. He's never wavered from the goals he campaigned on, and the statements he made after 9/11 about encouraging and supporting democracy throughout the world. I know our media likes to gloat about how all of the socialist countries in western (a.k.a. "Old") Europe don't like our conservative, princiapled leader. But here are some places that do:

Kosovo declared their independence yesterday -and they're celebrating in the streets waving American flags. Here's another one. And another one. I like the ethnic dress in this one. One more. Aww, this man's cute.

(Now, I'm sure you'll see all of these images if you watch CNN tonight. Oh, nevermind - they only like to show the flag if it's burning! Forgot about that.)

Now check out all the American flags waving in Africa for our president. Oh, and they must think Dubya is a handsome fella or something, because his face seems to be everywhere - including on costumes and clothing... I sure will miss this man next year on Presidents' Day.

Has anyone even heard of President Bush's successful endeavors in Africa before now? I don't seem to recall it being reported often, especially by those "compassionate" liberals in the MSM, who seem to care more about helping poor, little, American-murdering terrorists than anyone really suffering and in need of our help (hmmm, say, like the Iraqis under Saddam Hussein).

President Bush is receiving warm welcome on his visit to Africa. (Don't worry, I'm sure we'll hear the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton praising Bush on all the evening talk shows tonight...) Global Cooling Update

It's frickin' freezing here in New Fallujah!!! Yesterday evening it was 0. Yes, that's ZERO. And that was without the wind chill. It's warmed up today to about 7. Yes, that's SEVEN, not seventeen or twenty-seven - SEVEN. And I'm not talking celsius.

I was watching the local news the other day and they had a radar showing the frigid temps and the weatherman had to point out that the big blank area over Minnesota was due to the fact that their radar equipment did not measure tempuratures below -30. Yes, that was colder than NEGATIVE THIRTY.

Now, if this isn't enough evidence for you all to go out and buy pickups and SUVs, I don't know what is. We are talking about the coldest temps Fairbanks, Alaska has seen in eight years! Don't you know the water will freeze and the poor polar bears won't have anywhere to swim or fish??

Ann has a great post this week that thoroughly sums up my feeling about John McCain. I would like to add to Ann's thoughts by saying that I will never vote for a man who thwarted the President I supported for 8 years because he was bitter about losing in the primary, went against his party, was a big part of why with a GOP-controlled congress we got almost NOTHING done in the last 8 years (thanks!), ridiculed me as a racist because I don't believe in open borders and amnesty for all illegals and calls me a "denier" for not falling prey to this ridiculous, politically-motivated man-made global warming hooey. After all that, he's wants me to "calm down" and vote for him. He is taking my vote for granted, assuming that I am so afraid of Hillary that I'll vote for this GOP turncoat. Sorry, John, but no one takes my vote for granted.

As Ann concludes:

If Hillary is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with Republicans ferociously opposing her, followed by Republicans zooming back into power, as we did in 1980 and 1994, and 2000. (I also predict more Oval Office incidents with female interns.)

If McCain is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with the Republicans in Congress co-opted by "our" president, followed by 30 years of Democratic rule.

Super Tuesday Recap

I can't say we didn't see this coming, but it is rather disappointing. Let's see... McCain won a bunch of mostly blue states that he has no choice of winning in a general election. A bunch of Southerners who would rather have McCain be president gave Huckabee several states. Romney won several, as well, but everyone is counting him out. (By "everyone" I mean the MSM who are eager for the only good, conservative candidate we have to drop out of the race.)

What was most telling about yesterday's race was how many more Democrats voted than Republicans. They're excited about their candidates; we're not. Even though I've been supporting Romney, it's because he's the best we've got, not because I'm really excited for him to be our candidate. So there you have it. If the Republican party wants to abandon it's conservative principals and its conservative base. If they think the way of the future is to act like Democrats. If they want to demean our beliefs and court the NY Times. I hope they lose.

This is copied from Rush's site; a caller on today's show summed up how I feel about the whole thing:

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Listen, I don't think the media gets it. I don't think these Republican pundits get it. I'm 50 years old. Speaking to my dad last night about my general frusteration with this election process, he pointed out the obvious: Huckabee (and countless others) are counting on McCain to win and they want jobs or favors when he's president. Today in West Virginia, the Romney camp alleges a "backroom deal" between McCain and Huckabee to thwart Romney. This stinks.

Wow. Did everyone see that game last night? Being a Pats fan, I was not very happy with the outcome, but what a game! You have to hand it to the Giants. I've read some analysts who think the Pats just blew it, but they aren't giving the Giants enough credit for that amazing defensive play. Brady was sacked 5 times! Are you kidding? The Giants were all over NE's offense. Sure, Eli came up with the big plays on that last drive, but it was the Giants' defense that should have won the MVP in my opinion...

That was one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history. Let's hope it's a harbinger of things to come. (Like, say, Romney upsetting McCain on Super Tuesday tomorrow...)

Perhaps I wasn't the only conservative disgruntled after those FL results...

Kwame Update

The mayor of New Fallujah apolized to the people the other day. (shoving reporters on his way into the chuch) It's hilarious- if any of you care to read the transcript, I really think Bill Clinton (or his speechwriter) has grounds to bring charges for plagerism! The echoes of Clinton's 'apology' after Lewinsky are so blatant Fox2 news ran a segment with comparison footage last night.

And the scandals continue- apparently wanting to mix it up with someone who was not Christine Beatty or his wife, the good people of N.C. paid for his and a mysterious female guest's couples massage at the N.C. resort where he was in town to speak at a Martin Luther King tribute last weekend. The resort insists he was not alone in his room, nor did he drink all that champagne, etc. himself. Sounds like we have another serial philanderer on our hands here. Not that we should care about his personal life, of course, but when taxpayers are footing the bill, I think we have a right to question his antics.

I know that Kwame is a likeable guy and there is a good arguement that he's done a lot of really great things for the city of Detroit as mayor. But he's also done a lot of unscrupulous and illegal things. To say that he should stay in office despite his actions makes you sound like a Masshole who keeps voiting for Ted Kennedy.

Can someone please tell me WHY Mike Huckabee is still in the race? Edwards finally did something graceful enough to live up to that hair by bowing out. Rudy is out (very disappointing for me, as well. I had been a Rudy supporter, but now that he's backing McCain, I can see how wrong I was! But, but - Sage- aren't all the conservatives flocking to McCain? I mean he has Arnold's endorsement now. My point, exactly). If the Huckster would just pull out, Romney would be blowing McCain away in states like Florida and everywhere else.

Speaking of FL- people that described themselves as "very conservative" went 2-1 for Romney over McCain. Duh. McCain's not conservative.

So here I am worrying that McCain will be our nominee and I'll have to not cast a presidential vote for the first time since turning 18 and then I see this. At least, for once, honesty from a Clinton!!! :

In a long, and interesting speech, he [Clinton] characterized what the U.S. and other industrialized nations need to do to combat global warming this way: "We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren."

What is a conservative to do with such choices? On the one hand, we have crazy liberals who want to cripple our economy for 'global warming.' Forget terrorists -Impeding industrial progress to appease environmental whackos - that's about the only war Democrats can wage these days. They can't wait to raise our taxes, give amnesty to illegals, let terrorists have civil trials as if they were American citizens, appoint judges that are not 'too conservative' like Alito, and then expect everyone to like them because at least they're not President Bush! On the other hand, we have... more of the same if McCain is our nominee.

What is a conservative to do with such choices? Pray.

More Woes for Kwame

Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick now has something in common with Bill Clinton. Both perjured themselves by lying under oath about sex. In Kwame's case, it was to deny having 'sexual relations' with his chief of staff, Christine Beatty. (at least he wasn't preying on interns...)

Before libs start screaming about his 'personal life,' let's remember that this testimony was in a suit filed by police officers who knew about Kwame's affairs and other illicit activities of his staff, and were fired because they weren't compliant enough for Kwame. The mayor claimed their firing had nothing to do with all the dirt they revealed on him and his administration, but a jury thought differently, awarding them a $9 million settlement that the city of Detroit can ill afford to pay. So in this case, Kwame's 'personal life' is costing a very cash-strapped city dearly.

Sorry DP and other Fred faithfuls - Thompson just announced he's pulling out of the race. I think we could all see that coming after he failed to win the S.C. primary. (What's wrong with those Carolinians, anyway? McCain???) Certainly not the first I would have liked to see drop out. Let's hope Huckabee is close behind him. And if Rudy doesn't win Florida, I'm sure he'll be on his way out, too. Which will at least make our choice a lot easier: Keating 5, Kennedy-consorting, Bush-thwarting McCain v. Mitt Romney.

And in totally, completely unrelated news - can someone please slap Amy Winehouse? Normally I don't concern myself with how much crack the latest celebrity is snorting, but I'd really like her to make at least one more CD before she kills herself. Such talent!! Such a shame!!!

BNL - Detroit Haters??

So I was at the Auto Show Charity Preview last night. For those of you from outside of New Fallujah, it's one of the biggest nights in the D - a black tie affair, televised, etc. (BTW- I shook Kwame's hand and spoke to him briefly. Thankfully I did not see Jennifer Granholm this time! Gave me indigestion for a week last time I glimpsed her moles up close...) But I digress...

This was the first year that they had the entertainment actually give a small concert; they played directly after the show in the Cobo arena. This year's act was the Canadian band, the Barenaked Ladies. (They're actually men, if you've never heard of them.) They were my favorite band in high school and my early college years, so I was really excited to see them. Enjoyed the first couple songs they played, and then... I noticed the backdrop.

Behind the stage were hung four large banners. Three of them had nonsensical scenes - a dog being carried through the sky by five birds, etc. But one of them had a portion of a sphere, painted green (the earth?). Upon this sphere was a car - looked like an old 1950's car. From the exhaust pipe of this car was coming gray smoke that trailed up into the sky to form a big, gray cloud. Above the cloud were three nuns and from the cloud, a bolt of lightning was zig zagging down to the car.

Now- what would your impression of this banner be? Mine was - here's a group of stupid, liberal, Canadian musicians (whose new CD I will NOT be buying), who were paid to play this gig (that they did not HAVE to play) during the Detroit Auto Show. These said liberal muscians wanted to take our money, but also to stick it to us with this banner about how evil we all are for 'destroying' the planet with our evil cars. Forget that we improved the quality of life for people all over the world, revolutionizing how we travel, making cars that were affordable to everyone - great innovators who should be admired. No, to them, we're just the evil auto industry, almost as evil as those 'big oil' people. Another group of Americans ruining the earth for all those other 'good' countries out there. And apparently someone (maybe God?) will strike us down for that.

So, what do you think? Am I overreacting? Reading too much into this? Or has yet another group of celebrities offended me into never supporting them with my money again??

Tomorrow we go to the polls here in the great state of Michigan. I've made my decision - based on practical reasoning, facts, and sensible priorities. Unfortunately, it seems that few others are thinking along those lines when choosing their candidate. They're more apt to be excited about someone they "like" for arbitrary reasons like how many jokes they crack per speech or because of their race or gender. (Because certainly Hillary's tears, Obama's charming smile, or Huckabee's preaching will bring around those al queada types and the Freak of Iran!)

Among Republicans here, they say the race is between Romney and McCain. While Romney is the more conservative, with executive experience and without past collaborations with Ted Kennedy, I think McCain will win the state.

The sad fact is, we're a blue state and McCain appeals more to independent-minded Democrats than Romney will. Our struggling economy will be the biggest issue for most voters here. You'd think that might help Romney, but...

In response to a friend's question yesterday - wouldn't the Michigan voters respond more to Romney's economic optimism than McCain's lamenting about how the jobs are never coming back - I had to explain how the typical Michigan voter is like the Detroit Lions fan. They take perverse pleasure bemoaning how awful their state/team is. They complain incessently about the team/winter weather, but won't move on to another team/warmer state. They're so used to losing, it's almost warped into a sense of pride.

And Romney looks too much like those eeeeevvvilllll Businessmen! (you know, those evil guys who keep all the "working men" employed? The ones who decide whether to keep their businesses in this overtaxed, overregulated state (Thanks, Jennifer!) or whether to move them elsewhere and give other "working men" jobs. Yeah, he looks like those evil guys.

In addition to the Blue-Michigan mindset, we have another problem in that the only Democrat on our ballot is Hilla the Hun. (my new favorite nickname for her, which I cannot take credit for coining) In protest for us moving our primary up to Jan. 15, both Obama and Edwards have withdrawn from the Democratic ballot. So Democrats have four choices: Vote for Hillary (the only major candidate on the ballot), vote "uncommietted" on the Democrat ticket, vote in the Republican primary, or stay home. While I'm hoping for the latter, I'm sure that many will choose to vote in the GOP primary. And they'll likely pick one of the candidates that appeals to them the most - McCain or Ron Paul.

Let's hope that doesn't happen. Only one more day and the dynamics of the race will have changed yet again, depending on the outcome of Michigan. I'm hoping my vote will actually count for once!

BTW, I predict that the U.P. will go for Ron Paul. Though they only have about 35 people living up there, so I'm not too worried about their overall effect...

What's up with the Huckabee surge? So he seems like a nice guy, he's articulate like Obama, and he's religious. Have these been what the qualifications we look for in a president have been reduced to?

What's up with all these "I'm a conservative first, a Republican second" people? Conservative first on what? A candidate is pro life and that's all you care about? Is overturning Roe v. Wade going to protect us from the terrorist threat? Is it going to help our economy?

Of course we like our candidates to be pro life and sincerely religious, but that can't be all that we focus on when electing the leader of the free world. (Bad Iowa, Bad!)

Here's another, more recent summary. And look at his responses when asked about his failing grades on taxes - I haven't heard such spin since Hillary, when she thought she was still entitled to the nomination! I lifted the tax burden on the poor - save it for the Dem debate, buddy!

The tax issue alone should make you run screaming from this guy - there are enough people in Washington who want to raise our taxes without sending a tax happy president to preside over them. But let's look at his other stances... he's for in-state tuition for illegal immigrants (but not legal Americans from the state next door?), his idea to solve our health care issues are "people should eat better and not drink and smoke." Consequently, you'll read in the first link how he's all for regulation - what's next, government approved diets? Bringing back Prohibition? The guy is a nanny-state dreamer, tax raising big spender, amnesty-leaning "conservative first." And you think THAT'S what our country needs right now?

Obama won Iowa - big. Obama is now leading Hillary in national polls. Obama is about to explode. I can't believe the negativity out there among Democrats for their precious Clintons! This has to be the craziest college football year of my lifetime. How many upsets were there? How many #1 and #2 ranked teams fell? It seemed like #1 and #2 were ousted every weekend toward the end of the season... Now the BCS standings are out and for once I'm not that upset about them - who could possibly make sense of the season we've just had?

Oh, well. So Ohio State is playing LSU for the championship game. And once again I'll be routing against my conference. Go Tigers. At least the Motor City Bowl might be more exciting - Go Chippewas...

In some of the less frightening questions/answers in Tuesday night's Democrat presidential debate, Kucinich discusses the time he saw a UFO. Not to be outdone, Richardson admonished the government to "come clean" about Roswell. (At least in Richardson's defense, he could be said to just be helping his state's tourist industry...) Shockingly, I was unable to find much coverage of this subject in the MSM...

Mrs. Bill Clinton had the roughest time - unlike all of her interviews with friendly media members, her opposition actually called her out for her wavering non-answers to some of the questions. (Though despite the wavering cover-up she tried to pull later, she did still say that Gov. Spitzer's idea to give illegal aliens NY drivers licenses was a good idea...)

Apparently, Hillary fans unaccostomed to seeing her asked any questions compelling a straight answer were upset by the debate:

One caller from Oklahoma City said that “the questions … were designed to incite a brawl,” and that Russert’s and Brian Williams’s moderating was “an abdication of journalistic responsibility.”

Another said Russert “should be shot,” before quickly adding that she shouldn’t say that on a conference call.

Should be shot? That's a little harsh, though it wouldn't be the first time the Clintons were suspected of bumping off those who go in their way...

More Shady Fundraising for Boss Clinton

All three locations, along with scores of others scattered throughout some of the poorest Chinese neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx, have been swept by an extraordinary impulse to shower money on one particular presidential candidate -- Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Dishwashers, waiters and others whose jobs and dilapidated home addresses seem to make them unpromising targets for political fundraisers are pouring $1,000 and $2,000 contributions into Clinton's campaign treasury. In April, a single fundraiser in an area long known for its gritty urban poverty yielded a whopping $380,000.

Missing people...

The tenement at 44 Henry St. was listed in Clinton's campaign reports as the home of Shu Fang Li, who reportedly gave $1,000.

A tenant living in the apartment listed as Li's address said through a translator that she had not heard of him, although she had lived there for the last 10 years.

A man named Liang Zheng was listed as having contributed $1,000. The address given was a large apartment building on East 194th Street in the Bronx, but no one by that name could be located there.

Salespeople at a store on Canal Street were similarly baffled when asked about Shih Kan Chang, listed as working there and having given $1,000...Employees said they had not heard of Chang.

Another listed donor, Yi Min Liu, said he did not make the $1,000 contribution in April that was reported in his name. He said he attended a banquet for Clinton but did not give her money.

In addition to all of the fradulant donations, she does have some real supporters among the poor Chinese communities of NY. Many of them are illegal residents who want citizenship and their families brought over so they can be reunited. Using immigrants who can barely speak English to build your political base is hardly new --as the article points out with reminders of old school NY political machines like Boss Tweed. Having relationships with "associations" (nevermind that many of them have criminal pasts) that compel these new immigrants to donate money to Boss Clinton is just part of the old game.

Here in Michigan we really like our lakes. In fact, one of the reasons we like living here is for the beauty and recreational opportunities the lakes afford us. That, and we have some of the best drinking water in the country. ("These lakes are of sweet water" - Antoine Cadillac)

If you want to move down to a southwestern state for the sun and the dry heat and the warm weather, don't forget you moved to a DESERT. Water isn't plentiful in a DESERT. So maybe you shouldn't have a grass lawn...

Here's one issue I'm actually agreeing with environmentalists on - NM Gov. Bill Richardson thinks "northern states" should "share" their water. Why? So he can build bigger cities down there that we will sustain until our lakes go dry?? The notion is so ridiculous, and so typical Democrat-Socialist (everyone share! no one should have more than anyone else!).

I guess people are so blase about upsets in college football, they aren't making as big of a deal about USC's fall from grace this Saturday. But I sure will here!!!

Consider the stats and tell me this wasn't a bigger upset than the I-AA champions beating Michigan earlier this year:

How does a Stanford team that lost by 38 points the week before and coughed up 141 points in three Pacific-10 wipeouts barge into the L.A. Coliseum and give Southern California its first home defeat in six years?

How can the Cardinal, because the No.1 quarterback had a seizure, start a backup with three college passes to his name -- Tavita Pritchard -- and watch him turn into John Elway?

Stanford might play with the big guys, but the Cardinal still were 1-11.

In other good news - Michigan won (yea! Though I expected a bigger margin over Eastern), Michigan State lost (yea! To Northwestern in OT), and Notre Dame even managed to scrape by their first win of the season, beating another Cali team (yea!). Great weekend for college ball!

We all knew this was coming -- with all of the doom and gloom attention given to global warming by the "drive-by media" and politicians who fly across the country in private jets and use more electricity in one month in one of their houses than the average American household uses in a year --we all knew they were leading up to something. Feel guilty, they told us. The world will end in ten years unless we do something to "combat global warming." As if our using one square of toilette paper and driving a hybrid will someone make the sun activity calm down enough to change the earth's temperature! But apparently, the special light bulbs and giving up tangerines will not be enough. No, we must also raise your taxes.

So while some of us will feel good that we're doing something to help the environment by paying taxes that have absolutely no effect on the environment, our economy will also suffer.

I can't believe I never posted about this when it happened! Apparently former Dearborn police officer and his wife are only facing a misdemeanor for their stoned antics last spring. And I'm glad to hear it's not more - the story was too funny for any more serious charges and, after all, he did lose his job.

To summarize: After confiscating the pot, this police officer took it home and he and his wife decided to make brownies with it. Apparently, it was some pretty good chronic because they ended up calling 911 to say that they were "dying." However, the man still had the presence of mind to ask the dispatcher for the score of the Wings playoff game...

Columbia Welcomes Terrorist Sponsor with Open Arms

I'm all for free speech for American citizens, but this guy has no right venturing outside the legal radius of the U.N. It's bad enough the Useless Nations is letting him speak without having one of our universities giving credence to this nuclear bomb-seeking, terrorist-supporting, Holocost-denying freakshow.

I know Columbia's Ivy League and they're all far more enlightened than me. In fact, their Dean announced that he would invite Hitler to speak at his university if he had the opportunity. But what educational benefit does Columbia hope to provide its students from giving this guy a platform? Do they honestly want to hear a debate about how the Holocost didn't happen? Or how Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth? Or would they rather hear about Ahwannjihad's tryannical practices in his own country - censorship, hanging people who dress too western and speak against him. (how's that for free speech, Dean?) Or maybe they want to learn more about what he's doing to kill American soldiers in Iraq??

At least everyone's not taking this travesty sitting down.

I just hope the students who attend this speech give this freak hell. I hope they fire rude, tough questions at him and embarrass him. Do you think there's any chance they could redeem the mindset of American youth??? They have that chance.

New Fallujah's thug mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, was "stunned" by the verdict announced earlier this week in the whistle-blower trial. I'm sure he was stunned -- usually his antics just lead to a re-election. But unfortunately for Kilpatrick, the jury wasn't so stunned - they took all of 3 hours to decide in favor of the dismissed police officers.

Essentially the mayor was accused of dismissing the officers after they began investigating misdeeds by Kwame's posse -I mean, security staff: DUI cover ups, falsified overtime records, partying with strippers at the mayor's house, helping to facilitate and cover up the mayor's extra-marital affairs - you know, the usual stuff you expect from your government.

I will say that Kwame has done some good things for the D, but he needs to grow up and be a leader. His conduct should be most embarrassing to him, and the residents of Detroit who re-elected him.

It's just too bad Kwame wasn't a U.S. Democrat senator - then they'd just appoint him the head of an important committee and move on...
